Abandoned Arcade

This project is a 3D environment of a forgotten arcade environment, rendered in Unreal Engine for one of my first university assessments. The aim was to model an arcade space that involves five specific models. These models include an arcade machine, a vending machine, used food or drink packaging, a soft toy and a chair. I chose to depict a dilapidated and abandoned setting that shows forgotten environments years after their abandonment.

Throughout the project, I explored a variety of tools and techniques. While the final modelling was completed in Blender, this project also taught me how to use 3Ds Max for hard surface modelling, giving me a broader perspective on 3D modelling software. For texturing, I turned to Substance 3D Painter and Substance Designer. In Painter, I used a variety of custom materials made in Designer alongside a couple of pre-made materials with custom additions and adjustments. I made good use of imperfections and destruction to give a touch of authenticity and to add depth to the arcade machines and their environment. Together, these tools helped me achieve a high level of detail and realism in the scene.

Lighting played a key role in enhancing the mood. Unreal Engine's capabilities allowed me to create a dim, atmospheric environment. My use of lighting highlights key elements like the glowing arcade screens and subtly draws attention to the environmental storytelling. The toppled chairs, textured walls, and scattered debris suggest a sense of abandonment and a forgotten time.

This project not only pushed me to improve my modelling, texturing, and rendering skills but also helped me solidify my workflow across different software.
